Wafic Rida Said

Saïd Foundation

In 1982 Wafic and Rosemary Saïd founded the Karim Rida Saïd Foundation in memory of their son.

It has been succeeded by the Saїd Foundation which was established in August 2008.

The Saïd Foundation is an English charity working in the UK and the Middle East. In the UK it assists the Saïd Business School at Oxford University in its pursuit of excellence whilst in the Middle East it seeks to improve the lives of disadvantaged children and young people in its priority countries of Syria, Palestine, Jordan and Lebanon. It is non-sectarian and non-political.

The Saïd Business School Programme makes grants to the Saïd Business School Foundation for its Strategic Development Fund and other purposes with a view to establishing and maintaining the School as one of the world’s most influential business schools.

Through its further education programme, the Foundation promotes education, training and development by providing financial and other support to talented young people from the target countries so that they can acquire the skills and knowledge that would otherwise not be available to them. The Foundation has funded scholarships for more than 500 students.

Through its child development programme, the Saїd Foundation supports the development of the most disadvantaged children in its target countries in the fields of disability, education, health and risk reduction. Working with local partners, the Foundation has funded over 250 projects since the start of the Child Development Programme in the mid 1990s. These projects focus primarily on education and disability and now reach over 8,000 beneficiaries each year.

Our disability programme in Syria has been operating for over 15 years to improve the skills and attitudes of organisations and individuals working with disabled children. Due to the current situation in Syria the Foundation has had to freeze much of its work there, including projects for a major new not-for-profit hospital and a Centre of Academic Excellence at Damascus University to modernise its curricula and improve teaching quality.
